Another noteworthy piece of technology (though not as prevalent as cell phones) is the old school AOL instant messenger. I remember when I was in college, I would sit in my dorm working on my computer while my three roommates would be working on their computers too.
Instead of simply opening up our mouths and speaking, we would send instant messages to each other. Here’s how the conversation went:
Keith (my roommate): Hey Rob, how are u doing man?
Me: Fine.
Keith: Wanna grab some dinner at buckeye express?
Me: Sure, but can I say that it’s a lot easier for us to talk with our voices than to type out all this crap?
